Ørnulf Opdahl (b. 1944, Norway), one of the founders of the Queen Sonja Print Award, is an esteemed landscape painter and printmaker. Known for his interpretations of the light and atmosphere of the mighty Norwegian West Coast landscapes, he is believed to have renewed landscape painting in the tradition of I.C. Dahl and Peder Balke. Opdahl's motifs are recognizable for their abstract and mystical forms, depicting steep mountain sides and mergings of ocean and sky, light and dark. The proximity to the sea and the surroundings of the city of Ålesund are central parts of his practice.

Opdahl's works have been exhibited extensively, both in Norway and internationally, including solo exhibitions at Astrup Fearnly Museet, Henie Onstad Kunstsenter, and Blaafarveverket. He was professor at the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo from 1985 to 1992.
