Heehyun Jeong

New resident at Artica Svalbard

Heehyun Jeong is a printmaker and visual artist living and working in Berlin.

Jeong’s practice focuses on observations of phenomena that she finds in nature, translating them using different painting and printing techniques. The beginning of her work often stems from an intensive and precise period of observation, followed by her own understanding and interpretation of nature. This combined with Jeong's imaginary view of the surface she creates an invisible bond between nature and man, between life and transience: the work is finished when a consensus has been found between her will and the will of the picture.

Born in 1984 in Seongnam, South Korea, Heehyun Jeong studied fine arts at Seoul National University in South Korea from 2003 to 2007, from 2010 to 2013 she studied fine arts with Olav Christopher Jenssen, at the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts, where she was a master student from 2013 to 2015. Numerous exhibitions followed in Munich, Braunschweig, Iserlohn, Nice and Berlin. Her powerfully colorful painting, which represents a convincing synthesis of Asian and European traditions, has already received several awards.

Heehyun Jeong has been nominated by Queen Sonja Print Award for a residency at Artica Svalbard October 2022.
